Hello from the official website of the Daytona - Palm Coast Chapter. We welcome new members and offer a number of events throughout the year catered to all walks of life.
We are so glad that you decided to visit our website.
Our chapter has more than 200 members in Volusia
and Flagler Counties. Those are the two counties where we want to develop a Penn State presence. We are fortunate to
have some people outside those two counties who chose to be with us as well.
In June 2004 our Board of Directors developed our mission statement:
"A vibrant community of PSU alumni and friends that fosters and promotes Penn State spirit and traditions, provides a link to the University and serves the needs of the chapter members." As part of the mission we promote relationships with other Penn Staters and friends in Volusia and Flagler Counties.
Other additional parts of the mission are to provide excellent programming and to provide a local scholarship to a deserving student beginning in 2004. Due to the generosity of our members and continued fund raising we have been able to award scholarships to three local students attending Penn State. Dana Davis, a senior biology major from Flagler County, was our recipient for fall, 2008.
Most importantly, we hope you will review the tabs above and will want to be
part of the super group of Penn Staters and Penn State friends in our area.
Last fall found us rooting for the blue and white every Saturday at the Oyster Pub. We also cheered the team to victory in the Alamo Bowl at the same location. We are set to be there again this year. In October we joined "Make a Difference Day" for a community service project. We spent time at the Volusia County library for the visually impaired helping to sort, rewind, and reshelf books on tape. Our scholarship luncheon at Carrabba’s in January 2008 raised well over $1200 for the scholarship fund. Also in January, Charlene Gaus, our new regional director, paid us a visit. She met one day with the board and and the next with the entire chapter. The next big event ocurred in March when Galen Hall, offensive coordinator for the football team, was guest speaker at our annual banquet. He seemed confident that we will have a good season this year. The week after the banquet, a group of Penn State students arrived to work for Habitat for Humanity. Several members went to the site to help with the work and participate in other activities with this great group. In May we gathered again at the Oyster Pub to watch Big Brown try, unsuccessfully, for the thoroughbred triple crown. Our last event was a Daytona Cubs' game. We had great weather and fireworks after the game. Unfortunately, the Cubs lost.
We are looking forward to this year’s events beginning with the fall football season. Please keep checking our events tab for game times and for upcoming activities.
Thanks for stopping by our website and we look forward to seeing you at our chapter events.
For the Glory,
Judy Martin '69
President
