Dear Fellow
Penn Staters and Friends:
Welcome to the Tucson Chapter of the Penn State Alumni
Association. With more than 600 PSU alumni living here in
Southern Arizona (and several hundreds more in the Phoenix
area), the Nittany Lion spirit is alive and well in the great
Southwest!
We communicate with our members via this website and
regular email announcements. We also mail a Chapter
newsletter at the beginning of each fall. If you’d like to be
added to our email list, please contact Cookie Evans at
ceezee@comcast.net
. To receive the newsletter, contact Lynne Schwartz at
lynschw@aol.com.
The Chapter sponsors various events throughout the year,
beginning with the much-anticipated football season. This fall
we will be watching the football games at Firkin & Friar on Tanque Verde Road between Grant
and Sabino Canyon Roads. The location will change on
occasion, so check your email or the website each week
for game day details. Again this year, we will have some fun
Penn State raffle items on display throughout football season.
Money raised in the raffle goes to purchase Penn State Bookstore
gift cards for students from Southern Arizona who are currently
enrolled at University Park.
Our annual luncheon takes place each January at the Desert
Diamond Casino. Last event's speaker was Lee Stout, the former University Archivist and keeper of Penn State lore. Other events last year
included: the “student send-off” picnic, “Breakfast Bowl” potluck,
Penn State recruiting booth for college-bound students at the
Tucson College Fair, PSU pep rally for the Penn State women’s
gymnastics team at the University of Arizona, and monthly
Happy Hours in the spring.
This website is the best way to learn about any and all
things “Penn State” in Southern Arizona -- information about
the 2009 luncheon and other upcoming events will be posted
here. You can also call me at 520-721-1972.
Finally, we are always looking for new ideas and new people
to help make the Chapter the best it can be. We invite you to
become involved by attending our functions and/or volunteering
to serve on the Board or to help with the website, newsletter,
event planning, or anything else! To learn more, please contact
me or any Board member.
